What is Progesterone in Oil and How Does It Work?
As part of your IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) program, your doctor may prescribe progesterone in oil for fertility. This type of intramuscular (IM) injection is used to help thicken your uterine lining to protect the embryo and secure its healthy growth and development. Depending on your individual situation and reaction to progesterone oil fertility treatment, your doctor may prescribe you this medication to be taken every day for up to 12 weeks.

How to Store Injectable Progesterone Oil:
Store at room temperature between 59 -77 degrees Fahrenheit (15-20 degrees Celsius). Remember to protect this medication from light.
Progesterone in Oil Side Effects:
Every individual will respond to this medication differently.
Common side effects may include:
- Local discomfort
- Bruising and soreness at the injection site
- Breakthrough bleeding
- Weight changes
- Changes in cervical secretions
- Breast tenderness
- Secretion of breast milk
- Acne and other sensitive skin reactions
- Hair loss
- Fever
- Insomnia
- Nausea
- Fluid retention
Be sure to contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Breast tenderness or enlargement
- Numbness or pain in the arm or leg
- Pain in the chest or groin
- Severe headache
- Stomach pain
- Sudden shortness of breath
- Unusual weakness
- Vision or speech problems
- Yellowing of the skin
What if I Miss a Progesterone in Oil Dosage?
If you miss a dosage on the same day, you may usually inject the dose as soon as you remember; however, contact your physician immediately for further instructions. DO NOT double the dose on your own. Speak to your physician first before continuing your daily dosage.
